Description

The Virginia Association on Aging Student Research Scholarship Award is a grant that has been established to encourage the presentation of the results of research or scholarly activity from student members of SGS. The award is restricted to expenses incurred for participation in the meeting such as registration, travel and accommodations.  Awards are made available to all disciplines within the student membership of SGS. This award is made available through a generous contribution from the Virginia Association on Aging. Since 2007, this gift has allowed SGS the resources to provide a $500.00 award to one student who is presenting research at our annual meeting.

Eligibility

  • Any SGS Student Member who is submitting scholarly work for presentation at the SGS Annual Meeting.
  • All authors must be students currently enrolled in an academic program with an emphasis in gerontology.
  • Research ideas must be substantially those of the students.
  • A letter of support must be provided by the faculty advisor.
  • Awards are made available to all disciplines within the student membership of SGS.
  • A student may not be nominated for both the Student Paper Award and the VAA Student Paper Award.
  • All authors must indicate academic level.
  • Candidates for this award will be required to submit a full paper in advance of the Annual Meeting. The recipient(s) of this award will present the paper at the Annual Meeting.

Criteria

This scholarship will provide preference to graduate or undergraduate students who demonstrate leadership potential and academic excellence and vision through their research efforts. This one time scholarship is being made available to fund registration and travel to the meeting.

This is an annual award. Funds will be dispensed directly to the award winner through the mail.
